I’ve said it before, I’m so fortunate to be working in this amazing pet specialty industry, for a number of reasons. That gratitude has been amplified during this pandemic. So many people and businesses have been impacted by the changes COVID has forced upon our lives. At Nutram, we’ve made the decision to do our part as a grateful Canadian corporate citizen. With every bag of Nutram purchased, $1 will go directly towards a LOCAL CHARITY. We are humbled by the outpouring of support that this program has received thus far. It is inspiring to see how much Canadians care, and I couldn’t be prouder of our retailer partners, our customers, and everyone that is playing a part in supporting our fellow Canadians, and their beloved pets, in need.#supportlocal #charity #community #gratitude

Doing something good for someone else has always been the greatest medicine for me. Couple that with playing my favourite sport in an NHL alumni charity hockey tournament that is dedicated to raising money for kids with disabilities, wow, what a great day. Your support would be greatly appreciated! And I bet you’ll get that great feeling as well, knowing your donation will make a direct impact in the life of a kid that really needs it.

Curiosity has been proven to be one of the most important attributes of any high performer. And this is especially true for leaders. Simon Sinek captures it well in this short video - constant learning and curiosity is vital to effective leadership and progress. The second we think we know it all, we know nothing. Leaders, Prioritize learning for your teams, but do not forget yourself in the process.

I’m proud to be part of an organization that is making a difference in driving awareness and support of Mental Health in Canada and globally. Our partnership with CAMH is at the heart of this initiative. Nutram will prooudly match donations made to the Nutram Pet Products Sunrise Challenge team. We’ve accepted the challenge, will you? See the link below to find out how you can support us.

This week I had the privilege of attending the Business Leaders Executive Summit at the CAMH HQ in Toronto. The goal was to bring together a group of senior business leaders to discuss and brainstorm how to prioritize workplace mental health through challenge and change. I’m sure it’s a topic you can all relate to. The conversation was inspiring and I’m so grateful to have spent time listening to and sharing ideas with other leaders that care about our collective progress against the global mental health crisis we are living through. So many great ideas and strategies that I have taken away from the day. But there are two distinct ideas that really resonated with me…1. As business leaders, we need to start with ourselves by embracing our own vulnerability. The people we lead don’t need to see the archaic leader that shows no emotion, projects a false confidence, and cares only about business results. On the contrary, it’s our responsibility to be HUMAN, and be open about the struggles and challenges we all face. It’s this kind of behaviour that encourages the human beings we work with to open up about themselves. Now real conversations can happen about how we feel, what support we need, what a happy and healthy workplace and life looks and feels like. None of this can happen if our leaders fear being simply REAL and AUTHENTIC.2. Equally important as my first point, is for business leaders to prioritize the happiness and well being of the human beings we serve, over hard numbers and performance outputs. And this doesn’t mean a “one size fits all” approach. It means putting concerted efforts and practices in place to truly understand your people, what fulfillment and happiness means to them and how to support their overall life balance, progress and development. Once we have an understanding of what it means to support their fulfillment, we can develop tools and resources to support them. And by the way, I’m not suggesting that business results are not important. On the contrary, more and more research reveals that putting peoples happiness first, leads to better performance and loyalty overall. Our responsibility as business leaders extends beyond just people engagement in the workplace. It’s time for organizations to care more about our whole life well being. @camhfoundation #businessleaders #mentalhealthishealth #nooneleftbehilnd

On December 2nd, I’m lacing my skates up to compete in the Brad May Celebrity Hockey Classic, in support of Easter Seals Ontario. Last year was an amazing experience, playing alongside my hockey heroes, and meeting some of the amazing young people that Easter Seals aims to support. I got a chance to play the sport I love and also feel the satisfaction that comes with doing something good for a group of people that need support. Easter Seals provides support to kids with physical disabilities and helps them live more independent and fulfilled lives. I’m honoured to play a part in supporting this initiative, and would greatly appreciate your support in reaching our goal. Thank you for your support and thank you to Brad May and the other NHL alumni that generously donate their time towards this experience and cause! #eastersealsontario #greatcause

This year, Nutram made an important decision as a company. We decided to partner with CAMH in an effort to support mental health awareness and research in Canada and globally. I’m proud to be part of an organization that supports such an important cause, as it means a lot to me personally. Now entering its 2nd year, the Sunrise Challenge invites Canadians to wake up with the sun for 5 days (May 30 to June 3) while raising vital funds for CAMH, Canada's leading mental health research hospital. By rising together and rallying our friends, family, and co-workers behind the cause, we can change the way the world sees and treats mental illness. At Nutram, we rise so that others can find their voice and feel supported as they reach out for the help they need. They are not alone, and we are committed to fostering a society where the stigma is lifted, and help is readily available to all. Where mental health is simply recognized as “Health”.
