The songs of blue birds outside of Buttercream’s window slowly awoke her with a smile. She slowly hopped out of her pink and white bed and onto the wooden floors of her home/bakery. Her walls were painted pink with white trims. Her room was small but she liked it that way! The pink earth pony trotted to her window and quickly opened the round window and peaked her head out of it. “Good morning Ponyville! What a BEAUTIFUL day!” the frosting smelling pony exclaimed from her window.

She got a few waves and greeting from ponies below her so with a smile she closed her window and trotted over to her mirror and examined herself with a smile. She had fluffy white tail/hair with pink ends (along with some rainbow sprinkles from baking experiments) that flowed just beyond her neck. She had a little pink headband that was decorated with fake sprinkles that were scented like frosting that went with her light pink body. Her hooves were tipped with white along with her eyes which were the same white that still showed the sparkle in her eyes. The pony used their teeth to take a white cloud shaped bag and put it over her head so it hung over her body that was hanging from a corner of her mirror.

Her cutie mark was probably her favorite part about her. It was a cupcake with pink and white frosting with sprinkles of almost every shape that all were the same color as the neon pink wrapper. While admiring her cutie mark she remembered the most important part of her morning. She went over to her bed to use her hooves to pull out a bucket of paint that was the exact same color as her pink coat(Buttercream made SURE of this). She then ducked down to use her teeth to take a paintbrush that was next to it under the bed. Buttercream then trotted over back to the mirror with the paint bucket hanging from a hoove and the paintbrush still clamped in her teeth. She then carefully opened the paint bucket and dipped the brush in it. She looked around to see if anyone was watching(even though she lived alone) before carefully painting over a certain part of her cutie mark.

She had done almost every day since she had gotten her cutie mark. It was her own little thing to add to her routine every day to brighten up her day. It was like a fun little activity. But even Buttercream thought it was a tad weird as she finished up the final touches. But can you blame her? She had too many friends to risk anything. Her bakery was too successful to risk anything. I mean what would others think? Because let’s be honest even you would be slightly scared of a pony who’s cutie mark had a knife sticking into a cupcake with “strawberry jelly” pouring out. That wasn’t even the part that would scare people away. It was the question how she even got it.

The dreadful cold air stabbed Black Leaf’s skin as she slowly opened her eyes on the cloud she was sleeping on. Her long tangled ink black hair drooped over one side of her face which was covering a still healing scar that was still annoyingly visible. She didn’t want to be reminded of it. She didn’t want to see it. She didn’t want to see anything ever again. Yet with a sigh the grey Pegasus lifted herself up and stood on the cloud she was slumbering on. Her body was a dark grey with the only “bright” color on her being the white ends of her hooves. Her tail was straight and long like her hair that always followed her wherever she flew. Her eyes were grey that always seemed tired no matter how long she slept. Black Leaf’s wing was missing some feather yet she was able to fly fine as she unfolded them from her sides and looked down onto her “home”.

The everfree forest.

“..Good morning” the Pegasus sighed to the empty(?) forest before slowly flying off the cloud.

The Pegasus slowly landed her hooves on the dirt of the forest. She looked around to the black and blue vines surrounding the forest. She had lived there for a couple of years now. It wasn’t that bad when you get used to it..but that doesn’t mean it was a “cake walk served on a silver spoon” type of life. Most of the time she was able to scrape enough edible berries to have for dinner but the nights she didn’t the pegasus was at least able to sleep away the hunger.

She walked around for a moment before feeling herself step in a wet cold puddle which made her shiver slightly before looking down and taking her hooves out of the water. Black leaf looked at herself from the puddle’s reflection. She wasn’t all that bad…or at least that’s what she thought but even she knew that she didn’t deserve anyone’s love.

This was because of her least favorite part about her. Her cutie mark. It ruined everything. It got her into this forest. It got her into this state. It got her into this mess. She stepped into the puddle making a small splash ..she didn’t even know why she did this. Was it out of anger? Was it out of despair or pity? She didn’t know.

So what is her cutie mark anyway? Well to be honest..not even Black Leaf knew. She has never even seen it. Every chance she did get to see it she flew away. All she knew was that it was terrible. It was so terrible it ruined her life. It was so terrible that her own family threw her out without her even getting a chance to see it.

Black Leaf sighed heavily before flying around the forest and letting the wind pound her face. It was lightly raining as she closed her eyes and tried to imagine she was back in Cloudsdale and flying in her camp playing with her friends. She let a smile form on her face before opening her eyes and abruptly stopping and flying to the ground.

It was the edge of the everfree forest. Beyond this point was PonyVille(or atleast that’s what she thought) AKA the exact opposite of where she was now. She could hear the chatters of the other ponies. There was a voice that stood out. She couldn’t exactly make it out but it was louder than the others and everyone seemed to respect it. Black Leaf listened to the voice for just a second longer before turning her back from the town. Of course she could leave any time she wanted but she knew she didn’t deserve to leave. She didn’t deserve anything. Yet she couldn’t stop herself from turning back one more time before flying back into the forest as the chatters got quieter and quieter until it was just her and the animals of the forest again. It was always like this and she hoped it always will be(it’s not like she liked it though). But there was a feeling she couldn’t forget..maybe just MAYBE….something would change.
