Nigeria—named after the Niger River—had its capital at its most populous city, the city of Lagos on its southwestern coast, until 1991 before the capital moved to Abuja (“Lagos”, of course, being Portuguese for “lakes”.)
I’ll be honest, though—I think that “Portuguese” may be a bit of a red herring on this one; I could definitely see players staying within the Portuguese colonial possessions for this one. The bigger clue for those knowledgable about African history will be 1991, the year that Nigeria moved its capital.
