Now you've seen all of the Games Workshop miniatures coming for the Stormcast Eternals and the Skaven in the new Warhammer Age Of Sigmar launch box, it's time to dive into the rest of the contents of the box and the ways that you can play using the books and more.

The main thing is that the new Skaventide set comes absolutely packed with miniatures and books. There are twenty-four Stormcast Eternals miniatures and fifty Skaven ones. You'll also get the terrain and all the books, accessories and more that you need to start playing games. More on that later. Make sure to check out the links below for more images of the miniatures...

New Stormcast Eternals Miniatures

New Skaven Miniatures

There are some great miniatures for you to choose from, even better if you dive into the new edition of the game with a friend and split the box. All of this lays the groundwork for you to start diving into the new edition in a number of different ways.

Spearhead

One of the new ways to play is Spearhead which is effectively like the Combat Patrol of Warhammer Age Of Sigmar. Small armies do battle on a battlefield that could well fit onto a coffee table and see who is victorious after about an hour of play. The new Skaventide set comes with the miniatures to run two new Spearheads for Stormcast Eternals and Skaven plus all of the bits and pieces you need to play the game.

Spearhead Set-Up // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar

A portion of the miniatures shown above can be used to make the Vigilant Brotherhood and the Gnawfeast Clawpack. Each set of miniatures has been balanced against the other and whilst the core of the rules remain the same between regular Warhammer Age Of Sigmar and Spearhead, they have condensed some aspects to make it quite easy to pick up and play.

The new set comes with the Spearhead book, Fire & Jade, which covers battles in the realms of Aqshy and Ghyran.

Spearhead: Fire & Jade // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar

Inside the book, you'll find all of the current Spearhead/Vanguard sets and rules for using them in the Spearhead game mode. You'll also get your battlepack of rules and cards for playing the game, introducing the way to use battle tactics and commands. Capping things off are four pieces of terrain which should lay the groundwork for your initial adventures in The Mortal Realms.

Spearhead seems like a decent mode of play for Warhammer Age Of Sigmar but the proof will be in the pudding. I like the fact that they seem to have playtested it more and I hope that it still remains tactical and replayable, especially on those smaller tabletops.

Core Rules & General's Handbook

For those wanting to dive deep into playing Matched Play games of Warhammer Age Of Sigmar and more, the new set also contains the full Core Rules and also the General's Handbook for 2024 through to 2025. This will be your guide to playing your tournament games and pick-up games at stores for the next year.

Core Book // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar

The Core Book has been updated with a new look at the lore for Warhammer Age Of Sigmar through the lens of mortals. Most of the time, we get a very godly view of The Mortal Realms but this time, the design team have worked to try and give you a look at what it's like for the Average Joe wandering the streets of Hammerhal. I like this and alongside the roleplaying game books from Cubicle 7 for Soulbound, it provides eager narrative lovers with a good way to get to grips with the world.

You'll also note that for competitive players the General's Handbook Cards give you all you need for playing out games with your friends using points. You'll find all of your battleplans, battle tactics, rules, terrain layout suggestions and more. It's a good way for seasoned Warhammer Age Of Sigmar players to just get going.

If Warhammer Age Of Sigmar follows the rules of older editions, the Core Rules will be available free soon alongside the Spearhead rules for each faction. That means that at a basic level, you can play by just snapping up a Spearhead boxed set or using old miniatures to try the game out. Diving into Skaventide however, will give you a leg up and some great options for going beyond that initial entry into The Mortal Realms.

What do you make of the contents of Skaventide?
