Adjust your graphics settings

XDefiant FPS dropping can be caused by some hardware reasons or your game-related settings. It is related to your system conditions, graphics card status and the integrity of the files.

Perhaps your internet network have encountered errors causing it to not run smoothly, then you'll experience XDefiant lagging issue. It's advisable you switch to a new network connection and check whether the game will run smoothly again.

But if you have less fps than Hz, VSync will reduce the number of frames by half. This results in stuttering. So if your video card only reaches 59 fps, VSync will lower it to 30 fps. That means you should only set up VSync if your fps is higher than your refresh rate.

Adjust your graphics settings

If XDefiant is stuttering as you try to play, then swapping to lower graphics can help prevent it. Go in and move things down one, such as from High to Medium or from Medium to Low. Be sure to apply the new settings, close your game, and maybe even restart your computer.

XDefiant VRAM Usage and CPU Bottleneck

XDefiant is mostly GPU-bound at 1080p and 1440p. Our Ryzen 5 5600/RTX 3060 Ti system reported a GPU-Busy Deviation of 10% at 1440p while averaging 148 FPS. The game is more stable with DX11, especially on NVIDIA GPUs, so it's better to avoid DX12, at least for now.

Let's start with the entry point, the minimum specs Ubisoft suggests will run XDefiant. A CPU with four cores and eight threads will be good enough, as will a 4GB graphics card from eight years ago. Even 8GB of system RAM is fine and yes, it really is 2024—you haven't drifted back in time while you were sleeping.

The results may vary from system to system, but we recommend using “DX11” (ie keep DX12 off) for the best performance and FPS boost with lesser memory usage. However, if you experience stutters with DX11, switch back to DX12 as it is supposed to be more stable on modern systems.

XDefiant settings

Our own benchmark tests have demonstrated that an average FPS of 130 can be achieved with an NVIDIA RTX 3070 Ti GPU, an Intel Core i5-10400F CPU, and 16GB of RAM.

Ethernet Connection: A wired connection is more stable than WiFi and can significantly reduce latency. By connecting your gaming device directly to your router via an Ethernet cable, you can minimize the chances of network interference and fluctuations in ping.

Overheating. Running components at or beyond their recommended capacity for long periods, which is a side effect of trying to play on an underpowered CPU or GPU, will generate a lot of heat. If your system is not capable of dissipating that heat, your game may start to stutter and run erratically.
